Events and Activity Days at Sun Rising

A number of events and activity days take place at the burial ground each year, designed to give families and the local community an opportunity to get involved. All are welcome to attend. Details are also posted on our noticeboard onsite.

Volunteer Day: Mulching Trees

Sunday 11 March, 10 am – 3 pm
With the soil wonderfully moist after winter rains, we are aiming to give all our young saplings a good mulching.  Volunteer days are full of community spirit, an opportunity to meet others with loved ones laid to rest here at Sun Rising, to get out and do something muddy and worthwhile!  NB: let us know if you’re coming so we can tell you what to bring and if the day is postponed.

Coffee Morning and Cake Sale

Saturday 19 May, 10.30 – 12.30
Tying in with Dying Matters Awareness Week, this event is all about tea, coffee, cake and good company.  Come and share in informal conversations on the theme of death and dying, and what we can do to make the journey easier for all involved.  Or just pop in and buy a cake – all in aid of The Friends of Sun Rising. The event will be held at Tysoe Village Hall.

Sun Rising Annual Open Day

Saturday 9 June  11 am – 3 pm
An opportunity to meet staff and trustees, look around, ask questions and consider options for ethical, simple, affordable, personal, eco-friendly funerals, burials and memorials, at this gently developing nature reserve.

Afternoon Tea with a String Quartet

Saturday 9 June  3 – 5 pm
What could be more delightful than afternoon tea in the beauty of a nature reserve on a summer’s day, fresh sandwiches and delicious cake, all to the gentle sounds of a string quartet?  With a raffle and tombola, it’s in aid of The Friends of Sun Rising.  Do come along and support this key fundraising event.

Nature Survey Day

Saturday 26 May / 28 July, 10 am – 4 pm
For those who would like to contribute to our ecological surveying of the nature reserve, this is an opportunity to come and share.  There’s no need for specialist knowledge – experts and beginners are all welcome.

Nature Walks

Sunday 27 May / Sunday 29 July, 11.30 am and 3 pm
Would you like to know more about the nature reserve, about all the wild flowers that spring up on graves or in the wildflower meadow, the different trees, butterflies and bumblebees, why we manage the pond or the hedgerows as we do?  Come and join a morning or afternoon walk in May or July.

The Friends of Sun Rising AGM

Sunday 9 September, 2 – 5 pm
This gathering for subscribing Friends gives an update on fundraising, events and developments at Sun Rising.  There will also be a talk by David Brown, on the extraordinarily beautiful photographs and fascinating stories of many decades of moth watching in Warwickshire.
