Standards and Feedback
Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground and Nature Reserve is proud to have a Green Flag. We were first given the award in July 2015, and have been awarded it ever since. At the time of writing, there is only one other natural burial ground to have one, and that is in Surrey.
The Green Flag award scheme was launched in 1996 to recognise and reward the best parks and green spaces in the country. The rigorous Green Flag judging process measures each site against a list of criteria which includes cleanliness, safety, sustainability, heritage conservation and quality of management. It continues to represent the national standard of excellence against which parks and green spaces are measured. For more information about Green Flags, please check their website, or have a look at the Sun Rising page on their website.
For many years, Sun Rising was a member of The Association of Natural Burial Grounds. We continue to work within their Code of Conduct and believe our standards are higher than is required for membership. A pdf of the ANBG Code of Conduct can be downloaded here. Because the Assocation does not regularly visit individual burial grounds, it requires each site to give feedback forms to families after funerals, this being the only way that the Association can judge whether a site is meeting their standards. Having received serious complaints about the forms from grieving families who found them intrusive and inappropriate, we stopped giving them out and are therefore no longer active members.
The Association is part of the Natural Death Centre, which gives advice about coping with death and funerals generally. They can be reached by telephone on 01962 712690 or throughtheir website: www.naturaldeath.org.uk.
Every family who buries or remembers a loved one at Sun Rising is invited to give us feedback about the burial groundand the services that we provide. We are always grateful to families who are willing to have their feedback published on our Testimonials page on this website. We would equally value any critical feedback that would enable us to improve our service.
Should anyone experience any problems when dealing with Nature Reserve Burial Grounds, we ask that complaints be brought to us for immediate consideration: we will do all we can to ensure that any problems are easily, peacefully and wholly resolved as soon as possible.
